Open Forums: TUPD Arming Study

Message from Michael W. Howard, Executive Vice President, Chair, Working Group on TUPD Arming

Dear students, faculty and staff,

I write to update you regarding the Working Group on Tufts University Police Department Arming (WGTA), which was formed in response to the recommendations of the Campus Safety and Policing workstream as part of the Tufts as an Anti-Racist Institution strategic initiative. The WGTA seeks to assess whether Tufts’ current model of armed police officers is the best approach for ensuring the safety and well-being of all members of our community.

As part of our effort to gather community input on this issue, you are invited to attend one of the upcoming virtual forums being offered for each campus. These forums will be facilitated by Margolis Healy Associates, a national leader in higher education safety and security.

We welcome your comments, suggestions, and concerns and seek to gather the broadest and most diverse perspectives possible from across the university. Please consider attending one of the following virtual forums. If you are unable to join the forum for your campus on the date offered, please feel free to register for a forum that is more convenient.

  • Grafton: Monday, October 25, 12 – 1:30 PM

  • SMFA:  Tuesday, October 26, 3:30 – 5  PM
