Samantha Earp Brings Decades of IT Leadership to Tufts
Dear Tufts community members,
I am pleased to announce the appointment of Samantha Earp as vice president for information technology and chief information officer, effective May 1, 2025. In leading Tufts Technology Services (TTS), Samantha will oversee an organization that is working to meet our rapidly evolving and complex technology needs in teaching, research, and administration, and will bring a cohesive and strategic vision and collaborative approach to information technology needs and resources on all our campuses.
Since 2016, Samantha has served as vice president and chief information officer at Smith College. At Smith, Samantha's many accomplishments include creation and delivery of a five-year technology transformation plan which included a new Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) platform; achieving excellence in IT services; support and partnership across academic, administrative, and co-curricular domains; and modernization of the college's technology ecosystem, technology-enabled practices, and learning and collaboration spaces. As a member of Smith's leadership team, Samantha participated in the college's strategic planning and co-chaired the college's COVID management group.
Samantha's leadership in higher education technology includes serving at Harvard University as executive director of HarvardX, more than twelve years at Duke University in several roles including director of academic services (IT) and learning technology roles at UNC-Charlotte and Central Piedmont Community College. Samantha holds a B.A. from Berea College and an M.A. from Indiana University.
Samantha was selected following a national search by the executive search firm Russell Reynolds Associates that yielded a pool of very strong candidates. After a thorough interview process by the search committee and many university leaders, it was clear that Samantha's impressive record of achievement as a higher education technology leader would make her the ideal individual to assume this critically important role.
I am extremely grateful to the search committee for its thoughtful assessment and careful evaluation of the many qualified candidates.
Please join me in welcoming Samantha to Tufts.
Best regards,
Michael W. Howard
Executive Vice President
